As a preliminary part of the development of the budget, the Board of Education shall study the school program in its relation to the present and future needs of the students and the community. The Board of Education will present an itemized estimated cost for the operation of the public schools to the Board of Finance no later than two months prior to the annual Town Meeting at which the budgets are considered.
After appropriations have been made by the legislative body of the town, the Board shall take the necessary action to reflect any differences between the sum appropriated and the proposed budget previously adopted.
During the course of the year, the Board of Education may transfer any unexpended or un-contracted portion of any appropriation for which they are responsible to any other appropriated line item, so long as the total appropriation approved by the fiscal authority is not exceeded. The Board of Education will review the financial statement of the District on a monthly basis. Prior to the first Board of Education meeting in August, the Board will receive a final report and approve all end-of-year budget transfers for the fiscal year.
