BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE

New technologies continue to change and enhance the world in which we live and to provide new and positive educational benefits for the Litchfield School District learning environment. To prepare our students to be college and career ready, the Board of Education supports the appropriate use of bringing your own device for educational purposes. The use of electronic devices shall be in accordance with the Board's policy and the "Regulations for Acceptable Use of Technology." (RAUT).

DEFINITION OF DEVICE

Device: Any privately-owned wireless and/or portable electronic hand-held equipment that includes, but is not limited to, existing and emerging mobile communication systems. The device should have multimedia capabilities including the ability to (1) create and access word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and pdf documents; and (2) access the internet via wireless access points including video.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): Privately-owned wireless and/or portable electronic pieces of equipment as well as emerging mobile communication systems and smart technologies.

SECURITY AND DAMAGES

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): The responsibility to keep the device secure rests with the individual owner. Litchfield School District is not liable for any personally owned device which is stolen or damaged. Any usage of an electronic device which disrupts the school learning environment may result in disciplinary action.

PRIVACY

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): The district may not view any content on a privately-owned device without the owner's permission unless the school administration has a reasonable suspicion that a particular search will provide evidence regarding the violation of school rules or policies, in which case a search of the device can be conducted. Any evidence found while investigating rules/policies violations can be turned over to the police if it also shows evidence of a crime even if that was not the issue that was being investigated by the school.

SOFTWARE

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): Due to licensing agreements, no district-owned software will be loaded on a privately-owned device.
