SPECIAL MEETING (HEARING) AUGUST 14, 2007
A special meeting of the Litchfield Board of Education was held on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in the Intermediate School.
Chairman Wayne Shuhi called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m.
Board members present: Mr. Shuhi, Chairperson; Mrs. Reardon; Messrs. Fairchild, Simone, Tourtellotte, Noone, Gorman and Falcetti. J. Katzin was absent.
Also present were: Dominick Vita, Timothy Breslin, Tony Crowe, Robert Anzellotti, Attorney Rado, Attorney Sommaruga and Attorney Mills. There was a large number of members of the public in the auditorium observing the meeting.
Since this was a hearing regarding the non-renewal of a coach, Board Attorney Richard Mills was designated to conduct the proceedings. The hearing was being conducted at the request of Robert Anzellotti as an appeal to his non-renewal as girls’ basketball coach. This appeal was requested consistent with the provisions of Board of Education policy #4120/#4220. Mr. Anzellotti was being represented by Attorney Rado.
It was specified by Attorney Mills that any testimony related to or referencing any current or past students would be held in executive session, or order to comply with the state and federal laws concerning student confidentiality.
A court stenographer was present to make a complete record of the hearing. The Board was in executive session from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. for the purpose of addressing matters related to individual students and former students of the Litchfield Public Schools, after which the Board returned to open session. The Board went into executive session from 10:20 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. for the purpose of addressing matters related to individual students and former students of the Litchfield Public Schools, after which the Board returned to open session. During the executive sessions, the following individuals were present in addition to the members of the Board: Attorney Mills, Attorney Sommaruga, Attorney Rado, Dr. Vita and Robert Anzellotti. In addition, for the purposes of presenting testimony, individual students and former students of the Litchfield Public Schools were present (individually), with their parents.
The Board set August 29, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. for a continuation of the hearing. Motion was made by Mr. Falcetti and seconded by Mr. Simone, to adjourn the meeting at 11:20 p.m.
