A special meeting of the
Litchfield Board of Education was held on Meeting was
called to order by Mrs. Knox at Present were: Mrs. Knox (Chair), Messrs. Costa, Falcetti, Noone, Waugh, Doyle and Fairchild. Absent: E. Kavle and C. Johnson. Also present, Dr. Tindall-Gibson and Dr. Breslin. Student Expulsion Hearing Motion made by J. Costa and seconded by H. Fairchild: to go into executive session at Motion carried. All votes were in the affirmative. There were no abstentions. All board members, Dr. Tindall-Gibson and Dr. Breslin were invited to attend. Open session resumed at Motion made by J. Costa and seconded by G. Waugh:
that Student A shall be expelled from school for a period of one calendar
year, effective a) During the period of expulsion, the Board will provide Student A with an alternative educational program deemed appropriate by the Administration, in accordance with the provisions of Section 10-233d of the Connecticut General Statutes. b) During the period of his expulsion, Student A will not be permitted to be on school grounds and will not be permitted to attend or participate in any school-sponsored activities, with the sole exception of his participation in the alternative education program provided by the Board in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement. c)
Prior to d) If the Administration determines that Student A should be readmitted to school early in accordance with the preceding section, and if Student A subsequently commits any offense that would warrant suspension and/or expulsion under the policies of the Litchfield Board of Education, then the Administration may reinstate Student A’s expulsion for the remainder of the expulsion period, through October 14, 2004, without the need for any further proceedings before the Litchfield Board of Education. Discussion on the motion: R. Doyle asked for clarification of section B regarding the earliest date student would be permitted on school grounds. Dr. Breslin stated that the date that the student is readmitted is the earliest date upon which the student would be allowed on school grounds or to attend school activities. Voting on the motion: Motion carried. All votes were in the affirmative. There were no abstentions. Motion made by J. Costa and seconded by G. Waugh:
to adjourn the meeting at Motion carried. All votes were in the affirmative. There were no abstentions.
