FINANCE SUB-COMMITTEE – SPECIAL MEETING

Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Committee Members Present:  J. Noone (Chair), F. Gorman, F. Simone.

Also present:  Dr. Vita, D. Falcetti, T. Reardon, W. Shuhi, E. Fabbri, G. Carr, J. Katzin, P. Perusse, D. Johnson, G. Zaremski, A. Longobucco, K. Della Volpe, J. Marinelli, and L. Paul.

Approval of Minutes of January 30, 2008

            MOTION made by F. Simone and seconded by J. Noone: to approve the minutes of the Special Meeting of January 30, 2008.

                        MOTION carried.  All votes were in the affirmative. 

Discussion of Operating Budget for 2008-09

Discussion of Status of 2007-08 Operating Budget 2007-08

The BOE Programs and Personnel Sub-Committee joined in the discussion.

• Additional information was sent to Board of Finance; supplemental budget information was given to the committee.  A budget increase of 2.95% would require an additional $160,000 in cuts.  Reductions in staff would be necessary.  A budget increase of approximately 3.50% would require approximately $80,000 in cuts.
• A discussion regarding reductions.  Students have not made course selections yet; difficult to project unknowns.
• Discussion regarding non-renewal of non-tenured staff; discussed reduction-in-force process; discussed Special Education needs.
• Discussed certified and classified positions on 2008-09 budget status report.
• Discussion of costs:  CABE subscription, fiber optic lease, community newsletter, floor cleaning expenses, importance of maintaining sports programs; need to keep education system comprehensive; discussed facilities maintenance Town/BOE.

MOTION made by F. Simone and seconded by F. Gorman: to adjourn the meeting at 6:57 p.m.

                        MOTION carried.  All votes were in the affirmative.
