Smarter Balanced Tests

Litchfield High School plans to administer Smarter Balanced tests March 25 through April 9 to all students in 7th, 8th and 11th grades in both mathematics and English language arts/literacy. Students will not participate in the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) and Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) for these content areas. Students in Grade 8 and 10 are required to take the CMT or CAPT Science test.

  • The tests are not timed; however, it will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete each content area test

  • Testing has been scheduled over multiple sessions of about 45 minutes each; shorter or longer sessions may occur as appropriate for the students in the school.

To comply with federal and state statute, participation in the spring 2014 administration of the Smarter Balanced test is required. The Connecticut State Department of Education will adhere to all federal and state privacy laws, including but not limited to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

The Connecticut State Department of Education greatly appreciates every schools’ assistance in “testing the test.” The results will provide schools some feedback regarding what students can do with their knowledge. However, as importantly, the Connecticut State Department of Education will also garner valuable information about the testing software, the quality of test questions, and the effectiveness of the test administration and training materials. Students will be able to try out new, online testing software and new question types that will be similar to future Smarter Balanced assessments.

More information is available at the Smarter Balanced website at www.smarterbalanced.org.

“Please note that, in an effort to save on supplies and to use PowerSchool to the full extent in which it was intended, we will not be printing semester 2 schedules.  Students should access their PowerSchool accounts for semester 2 class and room assignments. If you have any questions please see your school counselor.”
