Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome again to our new school year!  I am happy to report that we had a very smooth opening and successful first week.  Our students are transitioning well to their new teachers and classrooms.  Over the past few days, we have received some calls expressing confusion regarding LIS’ dismissal and pick up times.  Pick-ups at LIS begin promptly at 3:05.   Students are dismissed to busses by 3:15.  We apologize for any miscommunication.

As part of our healthy initiatives, we ask parents to join our partnership by providing healthy snacks for their children during the day and to refrain from sending in treats of lesser nutritional value for birthdays or celebrations.  Examples of ideas for healthy snacks and celebrations can be apples and fruit or vegetable platters.  Non-food items for celebrations are also welcome, such as special pencils, stickers, or erasers. The Litchfield Board of Education’s policy on healthy foods and student wellness #6180.1 can be found at www.litchfieldschools.org.

Next week, we will host our first school-wide assembly to introduce our character building program called “The Keys of Good Character.”  Throughout the year, students will study and recognize in each other such “keys” as trustworthiness, empathy, respect, responsibility, and fairness.  As they demonstrate these positive behaviors, students will earn classroom rewards.  We feel that this program will fit in nicely with our developmental guidance program and promotion of a healthy active lifestyle.

Also, please remember to sign up for Constant Contact, our email notification system with important and timely reminders.  To sign up, please visit our district website at www.litchfieldschools.org.

Finally, I would like to share some upcoming important dates:

Wednesday, September 11:  Board of Education Meeting, LHS Media Center, 7:00

Wednesday, September 18:  LIS Open House, 6:00 to 7:30

Thursday, October 3:  PTO Meeting at Center School, 7:00.

I would like to thank you for your continued support as we start another wonderful year at LIS.  Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance to you or your child.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Murphy
